What We Do

Anaerobic Digestion

Anaerobic digestion is a series of biological processes in which microorganisms break down biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen. Genesis strategically capitalizes on identifying geographic areas that have enough available organic feedstock present, allowing our facilities to produce renewable natural gas, electricity, heat and fertilizers to power industry.

The majority of our development efforts are focused on anaerobic digestion facilities in North America to recycle wastewater treatment plant sludge (biosolids), pre & post-consumer organics, and organics derived from MSW. By creating renewable energy, we supply energy to power innovation for some of the largest sustainable-minded companies on the planet.

Combined Heat and Power (CHP)

Combined Heat and Power (CHP) projects are typically co-located at large energy-consuming facilities, where the facility owner can benefit from the lower cost of gas, electricity, heat, and/or cooling capabilities. CHP projects can also allow for host sites to continue to generate electricity in the event of a power outage, providing operational redundancy for critical infrastructure. In addition to its experience with CHP, Genesis has expertise in providing power to micro grids as well as feeding into the local electrical utility.

Landfill Gas-to-Energy (LGtE)

Landfill Gas-to-Energy projects are designed to collect landfill gas, clean up the gas to either run an engine to create renewable energy, or to sell into the natural gas pipelines to fuel vehicles and businesses. Genesis can evaluate existing operational facilities to find ways to increase gas production and monetize the gas at a higher value than the straight commodity gas value.

Organic Feedstock Processing (OFP)

Feedstock for anaerobic digestion facilities include: Biosolids (wastewater treatment plant sludge), pre-consumer organics, post-consumer organics, Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG), Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF), animal manure and waste from the biodiesel manufacturing process.

Genesis has the ability to remove organics from pre-packaged grocery items such as mayonnaise, ice-cream, salad dressings, soda, canned goods, chips and a variety of other products. Many of these items become available due to power outages, product expiration dates or manufacturing imperfections.
